The Florida Department of Transportation has awarded VorTek LLC with a 15-month contract to demonstrate the feasibility of measuring the weights of moving trucks based on their seismic signal. The Seismic Weigh-In-Motion (SWIM) technology has been developed by VorTek as an outgrowth of the Company's work in the Seismic Detection of Tornadoes (STD). Some of the same seismographic equipment which was previously used to capture the distinctive seismic signals of tornadoes will be used to record the signals produced by trucks as they move along the highway.
